Do you want to improve your riding skills and advance your horse care & unmounted horsemanship knowledge this summer?
Summer ribbon colors: red, white & blue
This virtual Challenge is designed for all equestrians. During this seasonal 3 month challenge (June 20, 2024 to September 22, 2024), you will receive 6 Riding Exercises & 6 Equestrian Tips on riding, horse care, stable management, unmounted horsemanship, and equine science topics to keep you learning & advancing your skills in and out of the saddle. The exercises and tips will be posted on the MBF Equestrian Challenges Facebook and Instagram pages, and will also be emailed directly to you.
The goal is to complete 30 activities by the end of the Challenge. At least 10 of these activities need to be horse care, stable management and/or learning about various equine science topics. The other 20 activities can be a mix from the list below. Please note that you can still do this Challenge even if you are not planning on riding through the summer.
⇰ Riding: for fun, trail riding, bareback, lessons, shows, foxhunts, etc.
⇰ Lunging, long lining (ground driving) or driving a cart or sleigh
⇰ Handwalking for at least 15 minutes
⇰ Groundwork/ Obstacle training/ Horse agility
⇰ Grooming or Grooming & Tacking up
⇰ Horse Care: wrapping legs, bathing a horse, thrush prevention & care, tending to a wound, cleaning tack, etc.
⇰ Stable Management: cleaning a stall, feeding a horse grain/hay, scrubbing & refilling water buckets, sweeping the aisle, etc.
⇰ Equine Science: learning the signs of colic, vital signs, horse colors & markings, parts of the hoof, the digestive system, etc.
If you’re unsure what horse care, stable management, or equine science topics you should do or learn about, visit MBF’s Equitation Rider Standards (info is on this site under the 'Rider Standards' tab). That’s right, learning a new horse topic, such as horse leg anatomy counts as an activity. Remember, this Challenge is to increase your riding, horse care, and horsemanship knowledge. Every equestrian knows they do a lot more unmounted activities with a horse, then mounted!
Any equestrian that wants to learn more! Horseback riders, weekly lesson students, horse owners, trainers, even equestrians whose horse might be hurt or in rehab or equestrians who choose to love horses from the ground and not from their back. This Challenge is for ALL equestrians.
Not only are MBF Equestrian Challenges designed to inspire and empower you to learn more about horses, but Erin wants to give back. For this Challenge, Erin is raising money for Track to Trail Thoroughbreds. Learn more about this wonderful horse rescue here: https://tracktotrailthoroughbreds.org
